ABOUT US
The nonprofit National HART Foundation (HART stands for Heart Attack Rescue Training) is dedicated to teaching students CPR and how to use an AED (automated external defibrillator), thus instilling the confidence to save a life.

The Foundation partners with school districts, PTA groups, and corporations to train and certify high school students according to the standards of the American Heart Association.

OUR HISTORY
Founded in 2009, the Foundation is built on a highly successful program previously operated by the Los Angeles Fire Department. During a 5-year period, thousands of LA high school students received training by Fire Department staff, paramedics and Explorer Scouts who were specially trained to teach CPR and AED skills.

The result: teens saved the lives of their friends, siblings, parents and teachers – all because they knew what to do and how to do it!

The program originated in the Fire Department’s Quality Assurance unit. Paramedics and staff involved in the program quickly saw the results. They honored teens as life-saving heroes and a gallery of photos of celebrations with the Mayor and city officials soon lined the walls of the Department’s headquarters.

Believing in the importance of the HART program, the National HART Foundation received permission from the LAFD to re-launch the program with the goal of growing it into a national organization.

As one student said when completing her CPR/AED class, “This is a BIG deal!” I couldn’t agree more!

Empowering a teen to save a life is a huge deal and our goal is to have all high school graduates across the nation skilled in CPR and the use of an AED. We are working to see this become a reality.
